The Clay Cemetery Committee is a unit of the Kirkwood Neighbors’ Organization (KNO), a neighborhood based 501(c)3 non-profit representing the historic Kirkwood neighborhood of intown Atlanta, Georgia.
The Committee is an expression of KNO’s 2005 commitment to the recovery and restoration of the community’s historic Clay Cemetery, the area’s only remaining link to pioneer settlement days and a reflection of it’s evolution from unsettled Piedmont forest to a thriving Victorian & Edwardian suburb linked to the world at large by railroads and trollies.
We are an eclectic group of Kirkwood residents who recognize the importance of those that came before us and the valuable lessons they have to teach us through their final resting places as well as the important contributions historical cemeteries make to our public green spaces.
The Committee sponsors regular maintenance of the cemetery, documentation of its past and present, and special projects which include fence restoration, development of a period planting plan, a ground penetrating radar survey, and the re-installation of damaged and toppled headstones.
We look forward to your joining us in this special effort to recognize and preserve a past that has much to teach us all!
